Oasis Of Love

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Gen.16:6-7

More Scriptures: Matt.11:28, Matt.26:45, Jer.30:17

Your servant is in your hands, Abram said. Do with her whatsoever you think best. Then Sarai mistreated Hagar, so she fled from her. The angel of the Lord found Hagar near a spring in the desert. It was the spring that is beside the road to Shur (Gen.16:6-7)

The story in our main text today was that of Hagar, the mistress of Abraham. After waiting for so many years without a child, Sarah, the wife of Abraham offered her husband her maid so that she can bear child for her husband. After Hagar was delivered of her son, Ishmael, trouble began in the house. Sarah couldn’t tolerate her maid anymore so she sent her packing out of the house into the desert. But while in the desert, the angel of the Lord found her near a fountain of water.

The fountain provided the lifeline that she and her son needed to survive. That is what you represent in the lives of your wife and children. You are that spring of water which provides strength, hope and faith for your flock. Jesus Christ, the perfect example of a good and godly husband, was an oasis of love to His flock. When Peter’s mother-in-law was sick with fever, Jesus healed her. When satan had concluded plans to influence Peter to deny Jesus, He prayed for Him. There was a time when the disciples had struggled all day in their fishing adventure but caught nothing. And when Jesus appeared on the scene, they caught so much fish that their net began to break.

As the head of your family, you are an oasis of love. The Scripture says of Jesus, come unto me all ye that labour and heavy laden and I will give you rest (Matt.11:28). Your wife and children should find rest in you. They must find satisfaction in you. They must find strength in you. They must find hope in you. They must experience all of the nature of Jesus Christ in you. Jesus gave an open invitation to everyone who needed help. Be like Him to your flock. Be all of Jesus to them. That is your honour as a good and godly husband.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, let my wife and children find rest in me and with me.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, fill me with divine wisdom and help me to be a problem solver to my flock.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, make me a joyful vine to my flock.

I am an oasis of love and my wife and children will drink out of it and find rest to their souls because that is what gives value to my headship as a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
