Sharpening The Saw

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: 2Tim.2:14-15

More Scriptures: 1Cor.1:9, Lk.18:1, 1Thess.4:11

Keep reminding God’s people of these things. Warn them before God against quarreling about works. It is of no value and only ruins those who listen. Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth (2Tim.14-15) NIV

Have you ever worked with a blunt knife, scissors or hoe? If you have, you will understand that it comes with so much struggle and effort and frustration. It is not that the object is bad in itself; it is because it has not been maintained by sharpening it regularly, especially after use. So, it is with every shepherd. And that is an aspect I would like to teach today. As the head of your family, it will be very difficult for you to retain your usefulness in your family fold without sharpening your saw of authority. You will keep having strained and unhealthy relationships with your wife and children if you continue to work in ignorance. This is why the Scripture admonishes you to strengthen your call as the priest, pastor, bishop and prophet over your sheep, through the continuous study. Study to show thyself approved as a workman who is not ashamed but rightly dividing the word of truth (2Tim.2:15).

But how do you sharpen your saw and what is your saw? Your saw is the word of your mouth. Your words are your weapons of war. It is by your words you engage your wife and children in all issues. The Bible tells us how powerful your words are. Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God so that things which are seen were not made of the things which do appear (Heb.11:3. As the shepherd of your sheep, you can change the negative circumstances around your relationship with your flock by the power of your words. In fact, you can stop every satanic force working against your family-fold and recreate the lives of your sheep. Therefore, some of the ways you sharpen your saw are giving attention to reading your Bible religiously. You must daily crave to want to know more about Jesus Christ and what He came to do for mankind. You must never get to a point in your life when you assume you know too much. You must never be comfortable with where you are and with the knowledge that you have. If you do, you will become like the object that is not sharpened and is put to work. The second action step you must take is to read other motivating and inspiring books. This will help you broaden your scope about other areas of human endeavours that would be useful to your sheep. It may in the area of sports, health, food and nutrition, politics, sexuality, finances and much more.

Keep sharpening your saw and watch how you would have recreated a glorious destiny for your wife and children.

FAITH CONFESSION

I recommit to sharpen my words by the word of God because that is what will enhance my position as a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
