Main Scriptures: John 14:26

More Scriptures: Col.2:15, Ezk.2:2, Rev.1:10

I GO THE WAY OF ALL THE EARTH, BE THOU STRONG THEREFORE AND SHOW THYSELF A MAN. This is the main text of today’s reading. It was a story of Bathsheba’s husband, David. As he was getting older, he needed to tell another husband, who happened to be his son, Solomon, about the need to be strong. This husband understood from his encounter with adultery that he fell because he was not strong in the faith. And so, he wanted to tell his son, that if he must rule successfully as a husbands and leader, he must be strong. Unfortunately, his son was weak, and he became an eyesore: his heart was turned to other gods; he built temples for these gods. As a husband, it is very important for you to be strong in the things of godliness. Every time, you let your strength to be on fire for God and His righteousness to dissipate, your wife and children will have no foundation upon which to build their hope for a better tomorrow. Why? Because, you are the head of the family and the anointing flows from you down to your wife and children (Ps.133:1-4). The kind of strength God is talking about here is not that which comes from your physical make up. It is not in your weight, height or broad chest. It is in fact in your spiritual stamina.

As you lead your family daily, you will be confronted with challenges from within and from without. It could be in the health of your wife and children. it may also be in the attitude of your wife and children. It may even be in family finance. If you are not strong in faith, you may snap and react negatively to your wife and children. And that is what the enemy wants to see happen in your life. However, for you to build your strength give yourself to spiritual exercises. And one of those exercises is prayer and fasting. In Is.40:30-32, the Bible says that they that wait upon the Lord, they shall renew their strength. This is to tell you that for you to continually renew the strength you will need to rule your wife and children, administer righteousness in your kingdom, you must be a husband who fasts and prays. These twin weapons don’t have substitutes. You will always need them if you want to remain strong.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, by Your Spirit, open my eyes to deeper truths about my role as a husband and father.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, save me from the shallowness of my thinking.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to apply the truth that You will show me faithfully to my wife and children.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am a continuous shining star to my wife and children as a good and godly husband in Jesus precious Name. Amen.
