THE SINS THAT EASILY BESET YOU (2)

Main Scriptures: Rom.8:1-3

More Scriptures: Rev.12:11, Rom.6:1, 1Pt.1:22

On the last day of February 2019, we began a teaching series. I trust God that you have been blessed through and through in Jesus Name. Amen. Today, I would want us to conclude the series. As the head of your family and the leader of your sheepfold, it is very important for you to understand that to become the good and godly husband is a growth process. It will not happen overnight neither will it be automatic. This is why you must never give up in your pursuit for excellence as the godly man, husband and father.

But how do I identify my weaknesses that disqualify me as the godly husband? The way you know the sins that easily beset you is when you easily fall into temptation. For instance, when you find it very difficult to control your appetite for food, sex and money. As the head of the family, gluttony is sin. Adultery is sin. Incest is sin. Stealing and corrupt practices is sin. Uncontrolled anger is sin. When you easily fall into malice or bitterness or unforgiveness, it is also sin. So, if you discover that you cannot control your emotions at the slightest opportunity or provocation, then you must come to terms that you are struggling.

God did not make you to be under sin. God does not want you to remain at the baby stage of your calling as the good and godly husband. God wants you to grow. God wants you to be matured and live out His kind of life in your sheepfold. So, He has given you His Spirit. For Christ has not given me the spirit of fear but of boldness and of a sound mind (2Tim.1:7). You have His mind and so sin must not have dominion over you. There are two major steps that you must take if you want to live above the pitfalls of sin that satan wants to set for you. The first is for you to see sin as your greatest enemy hence you war against it. You must have a holy hatred for satan, sin and the systems of the world. This is so important because what you don’t resist steadfastly will remain permanently. This Bible says this much. Resist him steadfastly (1Pet.5:9). One of my mentors and fathers in the faith says that what you don’t resist will fester. So, fight. The second step is for you to address that weakness that makes you fall short of the standard God has set for you as the good and godly husband. And you address it by pleading the blood of Jesus Christ as often as you can. The blood of Jesus can neutralize every sinful bondage in your life. If death could not hold Jesus in the grave, sin cannot hold you bondage. You must therefore, arise and see sin for what it is and contend. You are destined for a great future as the good shepherd.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, I resist every force of sin that easily makes me fall.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, I break every sinful bondage that has held me in bondage.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, I decree my liberty from sin, satan and the world.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am free from the law of sin and death and I have the life of Christ in me because I am created to function as the good and godly husband to my wife and children in Jesus Name. Amen.
