BE WILLING TO FORGIVE

Spread the love

Main Scripture: Matt.6:9-15

More Scriptures: Acts 1:14, Matt.16:23, Matt. 16 16

After this manner therefore pray ye, our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you (Matt.6:9-14).

You must understand that God has given you the power to forgive your wife and children. all you need to do is to activate that willingness to forgive in your life. So, to forgive is not just a desire, it is an act of your will. Though forgiving your sheep may be very difficult but the truth is that it is not an impossible action. Forgiveness is the nature of Jesus Christ, the perfect model of the good and godly husband. You must appreciate that as you lead your wife and children, they would offend you; they would hurt your feelings and emotions. This is because they are work in progress. Often, it may appear that your flock deliberately choose to make you unhappy. But as someone walking to becoming a good and godly husband, you must learn to forgive them as quickly as you can. In Matt.6, the Scripture says, if you forgive others. So, it is an intentional decision to pardon your wife and children. It is the supernatural force that destroys the power of hate, envy and bitterness between you and your flock. You must also understand that to forgive someone who has offended is supernatural. That is, it is God’s ability at work in the lives of men. And this ability can be received on the altar of prayer. You will need the help of God to pardon your wife or children, otherwise, you will struggle with hatred in your family fold. One of my mentors in the faith, Bishop David Oyedepo, once said that he has learned advance forgiveness. Therefore, for you to walk in supernatural ability to forgive your flock and not keep records of their wrong deed you must tarry in the place of prayer continually. In Acts chapter 2, the Apostles became empowered by the Spirit of God to do what they could not do after they have tarried long enough in the upper room (Acts 1:14). Engaging the force of prayer makes you to live above the natural tendencies to hold onto unforgiveness. Secondly, you must see the invisible hand of the enemy working disobedience in the lives of your wife and children. The story of Peter in Matt.16 gives a perfect example of how satan could influence your wife and children unto disobedience. In verse 16-18 of Matt.16, Peter spoke glowingly about Jesus. But in verse 22, he began to rebuke Jesus. However, rather than get into a verbal exchange of words with Peter, Jesus said, “But he turned and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan, thou art an offense unto me, for you savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men (Matt.16:23).
