Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. Speak comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her that her warfare is accomplished that her iniquity is pardoned, for she hath received of the Lord’s hand double for all her sins. (Is.40:1-2)
This is the command from God to a husband reading this devotional right about now. The Spirit of God is saying to you to speak comforting words to your wife and children. The Spirit of God is saying to you to speak comfortably to your sheep and household because your home and family kingdom represents heavenly Jerusalem on the earth. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. It doesn’t matter what your wife and children may have done to you. It doesn’t matter how terrible your sheep may be. God wants you to pardon their iniquity. Your desire to have a wife who will submit to you in all things and at all times is possible. Your expectation that your children would serve the Lord and walk in truth and righteousness has been settled from the beginning. God wants you to look ahead, beyond the inadequacies of your flock and declare His counsel of comfort over them.
You must understand that every husband is a priest and a prophet. You have the anointing to function in the office of the prophet and priesthood. In Gen.1:26-28, the Scripture says let us make man in our image and likeness…. So, as the head of the family, you have the very nature of God in you. Therefore, if God declares His goodwill over His people, you also have the power to declare God’s counsel over your wife and children. This is very important because the words that you speak are spirit and life. Inside your spoken words are powers capable of bringing the will of God to pass in the lives of your flock. You must also understand that every word that you speak in the direction of your wife and children are seeds. And the seeds (spoken words) have the potential to grow in their lives. As the head of the family, you cannot afford to be careless with the words that proceed from your mouth. In fact in Rom.10:10, the Scripture says, with the heart man believes but with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. The total salvation package-healing, peace, honour, dignity, respect, victories, excellence, fear of God, and much more- is communicated to your flock by the force of your open declaration. You hold the aces. Play them well for the good of your wife and children. Declare comfort, comfort and comfort to them. That is what makes you the good and godly man, husband and father.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to declare Your counsel openly to my wife and children.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me not to be ashamed of the truth concerning Your will for my sheep.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from the foul spirit of wrong confessions and declarations.
FAITH CONFESSION
My heart and mouth is sanctified and renewed by the word of God and so, I make bold declarations over my wife and children on the basis of the word of God because therein lies my heritage as the good and godly husbandman in Jesus mighty Name. Amen.
