THERE IS MORE TO KNOW

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Philp.3:10-11

More Scriptures: 1Cor.2:10, Lk.5:4, Hab.3:10

That I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death. If by any means I might attain unto resurrection of the dead (Philp.3:10-11).

As the head of your family and the spiritual leader over your wife and children, there are more uncharted territories to explore in the lives of your sheep. There is so much you are yet to know about them. As their leader, it is the knowledge that you have of them that empowers you to treat them as Christ would. Consider the man, Apostle Paul. He was the least of the apostles, but his desire to know more about the Person of Jesus Christ, made him one of the greatest Apostles of the New Testament. He wrote more than three quarters of the New Testament with depth of insight and revelation. Like Apostle Paul, you can be the best man, husband and father to your flock. All you need is to study and keep increasing in the knowledge of them and in the word of God.

What are the benefits of increased knowledge of your sheep to you? First, it strengthens the communion and fellowship that you have with them. With the knowledge of their personality at your disposal, you can feel their hurt, pain, joy, hope and desire and respond lovingly and compassionately. Secondly, you are able to comfort them when they hurt and celebrate with them when they are winning. Thirdly, it helps you to know how to mentor them. You are not the head of your family by accident. God designed you to be a man and thereafter translated you into a husband so that you can mentor your flock. However, you cannot know them if you remain unwilling to learn. In Micah 2:10, the word of God has this to say. Arise ye, and depart, for this is not your rest……because it shall destroy you even with a sore destruction. You must press on to know more and more about your flock. More importantly, you must learn more about what God says of you and the office that you occupy as a husband. I just finished read the summary of the book title, “Point Man”. Some months back, I also read a book titled, “Understanding Your Man”. I do not want to assume that I know all about being a man, husband and father. I also do not want to assume I know all about my wife and children. The greatest mistake you will ever make as the head of your family is to assume-basing your decisions and actions on assumptions.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from sore destruction.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from the power of pride.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, set me on continued pursuit of knowledge of Your word and my flock.

FAITH CONFESSION

I refuse to rest on what I know about my wife and children as I continue to seek to know them better because that is the pathway to becoming the good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
