EMPOWER YOUR SHEEP

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Gen.45:4-7

More Scriptures: 2Tim.2:2, Ps.143:10, Col.3:16

Yesterday, the Person of the Holy Spirit helped us to understand the importance of appreciating our sheep. And He expects us to instantly commend them for both small and big acts of good that they do. He warned that if we take our sheep for granted by being ungrateful for all their good deeds, we destroy their self-confidence. I pray for God’s mercy for you, if you are reading this devotional and you have never appreciated your sheep. Today by the grace of God, let us consider how you and I can empower our sheep to become all that God has created them to be.

In our main scriptures, the word of God tells us about the story of Joseph and his brothers. Earlier on, they hated him and plotted to kill him. When the plan to kill him didn’t succeed, they sold him into slavery and lied to their father that a wild beast had killed him. Because his father loved him so much, he felt pained that he had lost a son. But after many years, God enthroned him, and he became a ruler in Egypt. So, there was famine in the surrounding cities and his brothers, who sold him, were affected. The only place they could get food was in Egypt. They came, not knowing that their brother Joseph oversaw food administration. But rather than take revenge, he empowered them by giving them all that they needed to be strong again. And Joseph said to his brothers, please come near to me. So, they came near. Then he said, I am Joseph your brother, whom you sold in Egypt. But now do not therefore be grieved or angry with yourselves because you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life (Gen.45:3-5). God did not make you the head so that you can strip off the self-worth of your wife and children because they offended you. God did not put you in charge of your sheep so that you can destroy every ounce of strength inside them. Just the same way God sent Joseph ahead of his brothers to preserve their lives, so you are also sent ahead of your wife and children to give them life and not death, increase and not reduction. The same way Joseph blessed his brothers is also the same way God expects you to bless your sheep. That is how to empower your sheep.

But for you to be able to empower your sheep you must have a strong sense of security. You must not be threatened by the success of your wife or children. Secondly, you must have a very strong sense of identity. You must know your worth as the godly man, husband and father. Thirdly, you must have a strong sense of compassion toward your wife and children. It is compassion that motivates you to want to see that your wife and children succeed. Fourthly, you must have a strong sense of purpose. Fifthly, you must have the right perspective about your position, wife and children.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, fill my heart with compassion toward my wife and children.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, destroy every hold of low self-esteem in my life.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, build me up and make me an agent of empowerment to my sheep.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am empowered by the Person of the Holy Spirit to strengthen my wife and children because that is what makes me the good and godly man, husband and father in Jesus Name. Amen.
