UNDERSTANDING THE HUSBANDMAN, JESUS CHRIST (7)

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Mk.6:6, Heb.12:1-2, 1Tim.3:1-2, 1Pet.2:9

Having understood the importance of your purpose as the good and godly shepherd to your wife and children, what is the personality trait of Jesus Christ that you must learn from? Jesus Christ is a Teacher. He taught those who followed Him and His disciples.

And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching (Mk.6:6). Your wife’s and children first teacher is you. It is not their pastor. It is you! A lot of husbandmen have left their sheep to the hands of wrong teachers who have corrupted their minds and eventually led them to rebellion, spiritual and physical death and destruction. These teachers are not only humans, they also include television programmes, magazines, books and the news media.

Now consider this for a moment. Here is a trustworthy saying. Whoever aspires to be an overseer desires a noble task. Now the overseer is to be above reproach, faithful to his wife, temperate, self controlled, respectable, hospitable, ABLE TO TEACH (1Tim.3:1-2) NIV. Jesus Christ taught His disciples the principles of the kingdom of God. Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God (Mk.1:14).

What are you to teach your wife and children as their overseer? You are to teach them the ways of Jesus Christ to the end that they become light and salt to their world (Matt.5:14-16). But before you can teach them the word of God, you must have the word in you. And this book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth but thou shall meditate upon it day and night ……..(Jos.1:8). The Bible contains the principles of God that will make you and your sheep prosper in this life and in the life thereafter. You must know the word of God and be a practitioner of the word. This is very important because you cannot give what you don’t have.
