Bible Texts: Matt.27:39-41, Jer.29:11, Heb.11:33, Jn.3:16

The topic today is the interpretation of the cry of Jesus Christ when He hung on the tree. He cried with a loud voice, “Eli, eli, lama sabachthani”, meaning, my God, why hath thou forsaken me? Did God actually forsake His dear Son, Jesus Christ? God did not because on the third day, Jesus rose again from the dead and had the key and power over death. He triumphed gloriously.

As the head of the family, you may seem to be asking God, why has He forsaken you. It may appear as if you are alone in that journey to becoming the good and godly man, husband and father to your wife and children. You may seem to be overwhelmed by the challenges, struggle and pressure and you are thinking of committing suicide or abandon your assignment as the good and godly husbandman to your wife and children. I want to reassure you that no matter what you are going through, the Lord has you covered. God has you in His hands. In Jer.29:11, the Scripture says this and I want it to encourage you that God has not given up on you and your assignment as the godly husbandman.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future (Jer.29:11). NIV. Another translation says, “my thoughts towards you are good and not evil to give you a hope and a future.  Don’t surrender to satan, sin and the world. Don’t give up on God and yourself.

But for you to see hope through your present challenges, you must be born again (Jn.3:5-10). Secondly, you must have a personal relationship with God by knowing Him for yourself. The scripture says that I may know Him and the power of His salvation. Thirdly, you must walk by faith and not by sight (Heb.11:33). Finally, you must trust Jesus Christ with the whole of your heart and might. God is your Father. So, don’t be afraid by those issues that are threatening your relationship with your wife and children, your home, your health, your spirituality and finance. God is your anchor. He is your helper. You shall come out victorious like Jesus did. Amen! And amen!
