Bible Texts: Matt: 27:14-16, Jn.8:36, Matt.6:12-14, Pro.18:14
Yesterday, by the help of the Person of the Holy Spirit, we are admonished to set our sheep free from every prison of hatred, bitterness and unforgiveness. But why should I release my sheep from the prison of my heart?
Firstly, it is a righteous thing to do because you have the mind of Christ. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us (Matt.6:11-12). You are made in the image and likeness of Jesus Christ. Holding grudges and bitterness is not the nature of Jesus Christ, so it is not your nature too. Secondly, it gives you speedy answers to your prayers. Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel and as being heirs together of the grace of life, THAT YOUR PRAYERS BE NOT HINDERED (1Pet.3:7). Bitterness and unforgiveness are barriers to answered prayers. Thirdly, it strengthens your inner man and grants you good health. When you hold your wife and children in bitterness, your spirit man is crushed. Now, listen to this truth from the Bible. The human spirit can endure in sickness, but a crushed spirit who can bear (Pro.18:14) NIV.
You must understand that to forgive your wife and children is a choice you must make and it must be intentional. It is possible not to remember their offences. Yes! It is possible. Why, because you have the mind of Christ. For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness and their sins and their iniquities I WILL REMEMBER NO MORE (Heb.8:12).
Wouldn’t you rather set your wife and children free from the prison of bitterness and unforgiveness and enjoy the peace, joy and rejoicing that come with living a pure heart? The choice is yours to make today.
