Bible Texts: Heb.12:1-3, 3Jn.:2, 2Tim.4:7, Jn.10:15, Rom.12:21

The will of God for you and I as good and godly shepherds is to start, run and finish well in leading our sheep (wife and children). In 3Jn:2, the Scripture says God, wishes above all things that ye prosper and be in health even as your soul prospereth (3Jn.:2). God doesn’t want you to be ashamed of being called the head of your family. God wants you to succeed. He has good plans for you.

Unfortunately, many husbandmen want to finish well and do well as the good and godly man, husband and father but do not know how. This explains why there are increasing number of irresponsible shepherds today, resulting to many broken sheepfold (homes). So, by the grace of God and the help of the Person of the Holy Spirit, I will share with you three essential action steps you must consider and act upon if you want to finish well as the good and godly husbandman.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. (Heb.12:1-3) NIV.

So, to answer the question, how do I finish well, the Scripture in Hebrews chapter 12 and verses 1 to 3 has given the keys on how to successfully lead your wife and children. The first key is to consider your sheep. Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses (v1). Your wife and children are the witnesses God has given to you. Infact, they are your first witnesses. They are expected to testify either of your good works or bad deeds, hence when you want to act, respond to or say something, you must ask this question. How will my conduct, action and words affect my wife and children?

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, delivery my feet from failing and falling.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to lead my wife and children successfully.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, give me grace and help me to be the good and godly leader.

I exercise myself in the truth of God’s word and I provide good and godly leadership to my wife and children because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
