Scripture: Genesis 3:20, Pro. 18:21, Matt. 12:37, Gen.2:23, Eph.6:4, Eph.5:25, 1Cor.13:4-9

And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept and he took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh instead thereof. And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman and brought her unto the man. And Adam (husband) called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living (Gen.2:21-22, Gen3:20).

I have come to discover from the word of God that our words are powerful. What we say which is a product of what we think defines what we receive. Life and everything around us, including our sheep will respond to us in the fashion of what we call them. And this truth is what I want to share with you today because whatever you call your wife and children is what they become to you.

Your wife becomes and responds to you what you call her. The Bible says that,” and Adam called his wife Eve..”. What Adam called his wife was what she became to him-a wife. He called her Eve, she became the mother of all living things. In verse 23 of Genesis chapter 2, Adam called his wife the bone of his bone and the flesh of his flesh and she became a woman. Not just only your wife, it also extends to your children. In Eph.6:4, the Bible admonishes fathers not to provoke their children to anger. And ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord (Eph.6:4). When you call your children such derogatory names such as stupid, a never-do-well, failure, animal, he or she will behave as such to you.

As the good and godly shepherd, you must understand that there is an irrevocable power in your tongue-the power of life and death. If you call your wife a devil, you will see the manifestation of the devil in her. If you call her an angel you will see the fruit of angelic behavior in her. If you say she is a dullard, she will turn into one to you. Your words are seed and every seed has the capacity to grow and bear fruits. God said let there be light and He saw light (Gen.1:2-3). He didn’t wait for light to come before He said it. You don’t have to wait to see a perfect wife or children; just say what you want to see in your sheep.

Do you want to see a wife that is submissive and children that are obedient? Speak words that edify their person. Do you want to see a sheep that will honour you? Speak honourable words to them. Your wife and children are raw material that God has given to you. You have to nurture them into finished goods fit for purpose. No one else can do that for you except you. Don’t forget that as the good and godly shepherd, everything rises and falls on you.

Therefore, I encourage you to redirect your talk to speak words of peace, honour, respect, grace, motivation, positive affirmation, encouragement and faith. I want you to desist from speaking negative words toward your wife and children, even when you are unhappy with their behaviour. Just change your language from negative to positive.

Make your choice today because the power of life and earth lies in the bosom of your mouth and the things you say. You’re either justified or condemned by what you say. You must be saying something, be it good or bad. Choose to speak good words to your wife and children and see how your word will transform their lives for beauty, riches, honour, glory, good and godliness.

•           Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower my tongue to speak right words to my wife and children.

•           Father, in the Name of Jesus, make the words of my mouth forceful in the lives of my wife and children.

•           Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from thinking and speaking ungodly utterances and negative confessions.

I believe in my heart and confess with my mouth that my wife and children are gifts from God and they are fearfully and wonderfully made. I speak words of grace and honour to them because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
