GROW UP, MAN UP!

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Gen.17:1-3, Gen.2:15-16, Jn.3:1-8, 1Cor.13:10-11, Gal.4:19, 2Cor.5:17, Rom.6:1, Rom.8:1, Pro.4:20-24

Grow up! I believe today’s topic sounds strange to you. Nevertheless, it is a call to husbandmen to rise up and take personal responsibility to outgrow those attitudes that do not befit their position as the good and godly husbandman.

Take a look at this Scripture for a moment.  And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram and said unto him, I am the Almighty God, walk before me and be thou perfect (Gen.17:1). God wanted Abram to grow up. God wanted Abram to be perfect.

Now, what does it mean to grow up as the good and godly husbandman? It means your ability to control your emotions – anger, sex, food and conversations and so much more. It also means to be firm and unwavering in your stance and decision for what is righteous and godly. As the head of the family, you must be able to control how you respond and react to your wife and children when they offend you. You must stop abusing your wife and children emotionally and physically. You must not withhold good from your wife and children because they offend you. You must bring your appetite under control when your food is slightly delayed. You must also control your sexual urge and desires. You must say no to the temptation to take what does not belong to you. You must develop the capacity to do what is right from God’s word. In 1st Corinthians chapter 13 and verse 11, the Bible says, when I was a child, I spake like a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child, but when I became a man, I put away childish things (1Cor.13:11). One of the characteristics of a child is lack of control. You must put away childish things and become the matured godly husbandman.

But how do I grow up? The answer is found in Proverbs chapter 4 and verses 20 to 25. My son, give attention to my words, inclined thy ears to my sayings, keep them in the midst of thy heart, for they are life to those who find them and health to all their flesh. Put away from thee a forward mouth and perverse lips… (Pro.4:20-24). First, you must give attention to the study of God’s word to learn His commandments, instructions and expectations of you as the good and godly man, husband and father. Secondly, you must meditate and consistently think on the word of God so that it can influence your thought, action and conduct. Thirdly, you must contend for your maturity on your knees-prayers and fasting. You must pray and continue to pray in faith until the nature of Christ is formed in you (Gal.4:19). Finally, you must re-evaluate your relationships and walk away from those who do not influence and nurture you in the way and admonition of the Lord.

God wants you to be like Jesus Christ to your wife, children and the world in all things and for all things. You have the gene of godly maturity in you. You have the life of Christ in you. You must not accept to remain in that childish state. You must stop doing those things that do not agree with the commandments of God for you as the good and godly husbandman. Do not accept the lies that you cannot change. You can change for the good. You can grow up and be like Jesus Christ.

Therefore, grow to know Jesus Christ more and more and be willing to abide in Him. And when you abide in Him, He also abides in you and through Him, you think, talk and conduct yourself as the good and godly husbandman to your wife and children and the world.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to grow in Your word for my life as the head of my family.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, let Your word dwell richly in me to impact my wife, children and the world positively.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to live above carnality.

FAITH CONFESSION

I have turned from my old wrong ways of doing things to now thinking, walking, acting and working according to the WORD OF GOD because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
