MEASUREMENT INDICATORS OF THE HUSBANDMAN

Bible Texts: 1Tim.3:1-5, Matt.5:14-16, Col.3:19, 1Cor.13:4-8, Eph.5:25, Deut.6:1-7, Eph.6:4, Philp.2:13, Gal.4:19, Lk.18:1, Mk.9:29

Just as you have the office of the governor, president, is the same way you have the office of the husbandman. And by the grace and privilege of God, you and I occupy the office and today we want to consider the demands of the office of the husbandman from the First book of Timothy chapter 3.

This is a true saying, if a man desire the OFFICE OF A BISHOP, he desireth a GOOD WORK. A bishop then MUST BE BLAMELESS, the HUSBAND OF ONE WIFE, VIGILANT, SOBER, of GOOD BEHAVIOR, GIVEN TO HOSPITALITY, APT TO TEACH, NOT GIVEN TO WINE, NO STRIKER, NOT GREEDY OF FILTHY LUCRE, but PATIENT, NOT A BRAWLER, NOT COVETOUS, ONE THAT RULETH WELL HIS OWN HOUSE, HAVING HIS CHILDREN IN SUBJECTION WITH ALL GRAVITY (1Tim.3:1-5)

The Bible passage above provides the key indices to measure the true expectations of the husbandman for him to be called the good and godly man, husband and father. The Scripture mentions the following as the true measurement.

The first is that the husbandman must be blameless. This means that the husbandman must be a person of integrity in character and conduct. Like we mentioned yesterday, the good and godly husbandman must be a person of good and godly influence at home and in the market place (Matt.5:14-16).

The second is that the husbandman must be a man who is married to only one wife, no mistress, no concubines. This is because from the beginning when God made the first family, He made them male and female (Gen.2:18-25).

The other virtues mentioned are that the husbandman must be vigilant both physically and spiritually, quiet in his heart to receive corrections and be humble to learn. The husbandman is expected to be the family’s first teacher, teaching and leading the way unto godliness and righteousness.

Becoming the husbandman is a privilege but walking in the fullness of the being the good and godly man, husband and father comes with lots of responsibilities and commitments. And like the word of says, the grace of God is sufficient for you.

If you have failed and you are struggling to live and grow up to the demands of the office of the husbandman, don’t be discouraged. God’s help is available for you. Go to God through Jesus Christ and enjoy His marvelous helps. The office of the husbandman is a blessing and not a curse because God has made it for your good.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

• Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me by Your Spirit to function in my office as the good and godly husbandman.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, anoint me with fresh oil to be a positive influence at home and in the market place.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with divine wisdom so that I can become a worthy vessel.

FAITH CONFESSION

God has chosen me to occupy the office of the husbandman and I make a fresh commitment to do the works of the husbandman so that I become the good and godly man, husband and father in Jesus name. Amen.
