Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother and she was a widow and much people of the city was with her. And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said unto her, weep not. (Lk.7:12-13)
I welcome you to day 2 of our teaching, where we are exploring the virtue of compassion from Scripture as a heritage of the good and godly husbandman. We also learnt that God wants you and I to extend compassion and mercy to our wife and children the same way God extends mercy and compassion to us (Heb.4:15). I pray in the name of Jesus Christ that your heart and mind shall be filled with compassion and mercy and you shall be empowered to extend it to your wife and children. Amen.
But what is compassion and how do I develop the virtue of compassion which is the nature of Jesus Christ, the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman?
Compassion simply means identifying with the feeling of discomfort and pain of others as though you are the one and helping to comfort them.
For you to develop and be filled with the spirit of compassion and mercy, you must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and be filled with the mind of Christ.
Let this mind be in you, even the mind of Christ….(Philp.2:5)
Having the mind of Christ means you are ruled by the principles of Scriptures and not the philosophies of man. Whatever God’s word says is what you will do.
You must also engage the power of the Holy Ghost to fill your heart with the love of Christ.
Let the love of Christ be spread abroad in your heart by the Holy Ghost (Rom.5:5)
It is the Person of the Holy Spirit that empowers your heart and mind to be filled with compassion and mercy. You cannot do it by your strength. This is why you must ask Him to spread love and mercy abundantly in your heart so that there will be no room for revenge, hatred, bitterness, strife and unforgiveness against your wife and children or anyone.
You must continue to pray to God through Jesus Christ to pour upon you His grace so that you are empowered to always overcome evil with good.
Be not overcome by evil but overcome evil with good (Rom.12:21)
You must remember that God has made you to be the good and godly husbandman. God has made you to reflect the image and likeness of Jesus Christ in your thoughts, words and conduct. Just like Jesus Christ is touched with the feeling of our pain and discomfort, you must identify with the pain, discomfort and hurt of your wife and children and help them ease it. That is your ministry as the good and godly husbandman.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, uproot every seed of bitterness, strife, unforgiveness and selfishness in my heart.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, fill my heart with Your love and let it move me to be compassionate and merciful.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower my spirit man with divine nature and make me function like Christ.

I have the mind of Jesus Christ and by it I possess and manifest the nature of mercy and compassion because that is what defines my headship as the good and godly husbandman in Jesus Name. Amen.
