LIVING LIKE JESUS CHRIST IS LIFE ABUNDANT

Bible Texts: Matt.20:20-23, Eph.5:22, Gal.4:19, Eph.6:4, Jn.10:11, 2Cor.5:17, Philp.2:13, Acts.1:1-2, Mk.9:29, Jn.5:39, 2Tim.2:15, Ps.23:1, Lk.18:1, Jos.24:15, 1Tim.3:1-3

Then came to him the mother of Zebedee’s children with her sons, worshipping him and desiring a certain thing of him. And he said unto her, what wilt thou? She saith unto him, grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right and the other on the left, in thy kingdom. But Jesus answered and said, ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, we are able. And he said unto them, ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with, but to sit on my right hand and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my father (Matt.20:20-23)

The mother of Zebedee’s children approached Jesus and asked for something significant for her children. She wanted a change of position for her sons. She wanted both sons to sit on the right and the left in God’s kingdom. But Jesus asked both the mother and her children one important question.

Jesus asked, “Can you drink of the cup that I drink of and can you be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? Literally, Jesus Christ told them that every great position comes with enormous responsibilities, which result in godly authority. This is exactly what your position as the husbandman demands.

God wants you to be like Jesus Christ as you lead your life and the lives of your wife and children. The call to husband-hood is a desirable office (1Tim.3:1-2). God created the office so that you can reflect Christ’s image and likeness (Gen.2:18-24). Hence, the day you decide to accept the office of the husband-hood is the day you were baptized into the same responsibilities that Jesus Christ was baptized into as the perfect example of the godly husbandman.

But what am I baptized into?

You are baptized into mercy, faithfulness, courage, fruitfulness, compassion, holiness, hospitality, the fear of the Lord, a provider, protector, giver, and a life of sacrifice. These are all the virtues that God wants you to have as the good and godly man, husband and father. And this is life.

Therefore, the call to husband-hood is not cheap talk. It is a call to hard work and sacrifices and that is what makes you the good and godly husbandman

Hallelujah!

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to be responsible and accountable as the man, husband and father.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to do Your will as the husbandman.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me not to give up as the man, husband and father.

FAITH CONFESSION

I drink of the cup of Jesus Christ and I am baptized with the baptism of Jesus Christ and by it I take full responsibilities as the man, husband and father because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
