CALLED TO SERVICE

Bible Texts: Eph.5:25-29, Eph.6:4, Col.3:19, Deut.6:7, 1Tim.3:2,4, Matt.5:14-16, Is.61:9, 2Tim.2:6, 1Cor.13:4-8, 1Tim.5:8, Jos.24:15

As the husbandman, your principal assignment from God that has been given to you is to serve His interest in your family by serving your wife and your children because they are His treasures given to you as their custodian. This is what makes you the good and godly man, husband and father.

But how do I serve my wife and my children the way God commands?

You serve your wife by loving her like Christ has loved you.

Husbands, love your wives even as Christ also loved the church and gave himself for it. That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word. That he might present it to himself, a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle or any such thing but that it should be holy and without blemish. So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church (Eph.5:25-29)

The Word of God demands that you love your wife as Christ has loved the Church and has given Himself to it. God wants you to love your wife, not sometimes, not conditionally, but always and unconditionally. God wants you to demonstrate His kind of love to your wife because you are the person with the capacity to do so (1Cor.13:4-8, Eph.5:25).

You serve your children by nurturing them in the way and admonition of the Lord.

And ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath but bring them up in the way and admonition of the Lord (Eph.6:4)

Service to your children is one of your greatest assignments and influences as the good and godly husbandman. As the good shepherd, you must lead them, teach them, guide them, show them the way of godliness, and be an example of what you teach them (Acts 1:1). Please, now that this command is to you and not to your wife, who is their mother (Deut.6:6-10, Jos.24:15, Acts 10:1-3).

Serving your wife and your children based on the truth of God’s word establishes your glorious heritage as the good and godly husbandman and gives an inheritance in Christ. Go and serve them.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

• Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to love my wife as Christ has loved the church and gave Himself to it.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to train and nurture my children in the ways and admonition of the Lord.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to keep obeying all the laws of the husbandman, diligently and delightfully.

FAITH CONFESSION

I take delight in obeying all the laws of the husbandman and I receive help from God to keep doing all that the law commands me to do because I want to become the good and godly man, husband and father in Jesus name. Amen.
