Bible Texts: 2Thess.3:1-16, Gen.17:1-3, Matt.5:14-16, 1Tim.3:1-5, Philp.4:8, 1Pet.3:7-9, 1Cor.13:11, 1Tim.5:7-8, Deut.6:4-10, Col.3:19, Ps.23:1-4, Eph.6:4, Eph.5:25
And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God, walk before me and be thou perfect (Gen.17:1)
The Word of God tells us that God demanded that Abram grow up and be mature, even though he was ninety-nine years old. Why? It is because there are some attitudes and conduct that Abram displayed that did not prove he was mature. So, God told him, “Walk before me and be perfect”.
As the husbandman, God also wants you to grow up and be mature and be like Jesus Christ to your wife, your children, and a vessel of honour in the marketplace. If God demanded maturity from the husbandman, Abraham, in Genesis chapter 17 and verse 1b, He also demands mature behaviour from you, because He wants you to become the good and godly man, husband and father.
When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child. But when I became a man, I put away childish things (1Cor.13:11)
God wants the husbandman to grow out of his childish behaviour into maturity. But how do I behave like a child even though I am a grown man, husband and father?
When you keep malice with your wife and abuse her emotionally and physically, it is childish conduct from you. When you manipulate your wife or children to obtain something from them, it is a sign of childishness. Disrespecting your wife before anyone to prove your headship is a dishonourable act. Living a life of sexual immorality or a riotous life of drunkenness, uncontrolled anger, holding bitterness, lying and cheating, refusing to take responsibility to provide the spiritual, material, financial, and protection needs of your wife and your children, or giving excuses for your failure and blaming others, rather than take responsibility, are all indications that you are a child; you are not mature. This is not what God wants for you. God wants you to grow up and be mature.
The proof of your maturity is if you walk before the Lord by obeying all that the Word of God commands you to do as the man, husband, and father, and living the Word of God in every circumstance, in your decision, action, and conduct. That is what God wants for you, and that is what makes you the good and godly husbandman.
Hallelujah!
