Bible Texts: Lk.19:12-13, Gen.2:15, Gen.14:13-16, 1Sam.30:19, Eph.5:25-29
He said therefore, a certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom and to return. And he called his ten servants and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, occupy till I come (Lk.19:12-13)
The Holy Spirit is saying to husbandman reading today’s devotional, “occupy till I come”.
There are so many teachings around the body of Christ wherein the wife is told to protect her family or marriage. When the marriage is being threatened, it is the wife who is advised to fight for her home. And this has continued to make the wife look like the victim and has increased the number of reported cases of violence and divorce. But that is not what God intended for the family from the beginning.
From the beginning, God positioned the husbandman to protect and cultivate everything in his family fold, including his wife and children (Gen.2:15-17, Eph.5:25-29, Eph.6:4, 1Tim.3:1-5). So, Jesus is now saying to you, occupy till I come. Hold forte the covenant of your marriage and home till Jesus returns.
As the custodian of your flock and the shepherd of your sheep, it is your singular honour and responsibility to take charge and be in command of the family that God has given to you. Abraham pursued and recovered everything that was stolen by the enemy, so was David (Gen.14:13-16, 1Sam.30:19). God has delivered to you a wife and blessed you with children, so He wants you to cultivate, protect and preserve them till He comes. He doesn’t want you to transfer the responsibility to your wife, pastor, parents or friends.
You are like general in the army, hence you must always be conscious of your authority and power. God did not handover your sheepfold to your wife or children. He handed it over to you. Don’t let your family slip through your hands. Occupy till Jesus comes and enjoy His rewards as the good and godly husbandman.
Hallelujah!
