But he that shall endure unto the end. The same shall be saved (Matt.24:13).
If you have ever travelled by air from Nigeria to a country like China, you will understand what a long haul really means. The journey seems like it would not end. You wish and hope that the airplane arrives at your destination as soon as possible. Notwithstanding the length of hours you may have spent in the air, you are patient with the pilot until the aircraft touches down safely. That is the mind of God for you when he favoured you and changed your status from a man to a husband.
As the husbandman, you are not leading to give up. No! You are empowered to go all the way with your flock. It doesn’t matter how imperfect and irresponsible your wife and children may be, your headship is not a temporary position. It is God’s eternal plan. The Bible in Matt.19:5 says, what God has joined together, let no man put asunder to it. Why did Jesus Christ, the perfect example of a good and godly husband say so? He said it because from the beginning when God made the office of the husbandman, He made it an unbreakable covenant. And it is for a reason. He wants to bless the families of the earth through your family. Your wife may misbehave. Your children may offend you through their actions and inactions. In all of these, you must never jump out of the ship. You must stay on until the changes you want to see in their lives happen. The Scripture has this to say in Job 14:14. If a man dies, shall he live again? All the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.
But for you to maintain the right attitude for the enormous demands of a good and godly husband, you must make Jesus the Lord of your life and the reason for your position as the head. If you allow the mind of Christ to dwell in you, it would help you shift your attention from the many flaws of your wife and children to Jesus Christ, the Author and Finisher of your faith. And as you allow Him to define how you respond to the turbulences and challenges you are confronted with in your effort to lead your flock, your heart will be filled with peace and joy like a river.
