Main Scriptures: Matt.20:30-34
More Scriptures: Jn.10:27, Lk.6:30, Lk.11:10
Two blind men were sitting beside the road. When they heard that Jesus was coming that way, they began shouting, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us”. “Be quiet!” the crowd yelled at them. But they only shouted louder, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us”. When Jesus heard them, he stopped and called, “What do you want me to do for you? “Lord,” they said, we want to see! Jesus felt sorry for them and touched their eyes. Instantly they could see! They followed Him. (Matt.20:30-34) NLT
Do you know that as a good and godly husband, one of the baptisms of Jesus Christ you receive is the baptism of compassion? Jesus Christ was full of compassion and mercy towards all that He came in contact with. He worked hard to be a better shepherd to His sheep. And this inspired Him to go about doing good and delivering all that were oppressed of the devil. He met two blind men and He asked them what do you want me to do for you? They responded, “we want to see”. He was moved with compassion at their pain and discomfort and He restored their sight.
This is the attitude God wants you to have towards your wife and children. God wants you to have a conversation with your sheep. God wants you to ask your flock what they want you to do for them. As the shepherd of the sheep, asking your wife and children what they want you to do for them is the wisdom key to establishing your voice firmly in their hearts. The Scriptures tell us in Jn.10, that my sheep hear my voice and I know them and they follow me (Jn.10:27). You will not command as much influence as you desire in the lives of your wife and children if they do not know you. And you cannot know how much your sheep expects from you if you do not ask questions. Don’t allow the busyness of life choke your time of engagements with your wife and children. You must always make time to privately ask your wife to tell the areas of your life or relationship with her and your children that needs improvement. You can also ask your children to also ask you where they think you need to grow.
However, there is one force you must be aware of and deal with. It is the pride. You have not lost your worth as a man, husband and father when you stoop to ask your sheep what they want you to do for them. It doesn’t belittle your personality. Rather, it connects you to the inner courts of their hearts and thoughts and that is the way you would be able to influence them for good and God.
