GODLY HUSBANDS CONFRONT DESTRUCTIVE HABITS (2)

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Psalms 112:5-6

More Scriptures: Ps.19:11, Job.36:10, Rev.12:10

Yesterday, we looked at how dangerous destructive habits could be to us, who are spiritual leaders and pastors over our wives and children. The Holy Spirit taught us that any habit that takes us away from God and builds a wall or barrier between us and our sheep is not just evil, but that it destroys us spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally and eternally. Today, we want to look at how you and I can overcome these destructive tendencies even as we lead and provide inspiring leadership to our sheep and over our homes.

As the head of the family, one of the ways you can confront and overcome destructive habits is by personal discipline. Now, what is discipline? Discipline means doing what you hate to do to create what you desire. And when you keep doing what you hate to create what you desire, it becomes a habit. For instance, as a husband, decide to discipline your appetite for food, especially if you are someone who has no control over hunger. You are invited to a place where there is plenty to eat and drink without limits. But rather than eat as though tomorrow will never come, you decide dish for yourself a decent quantity. You hate the fact that you missed the opportunity to eat as much as you can, but you decided to control your appetite. Another example is when you offend your wife or children and you are the kind of person that hates to apologize, so as not to be looked at as a weak person. Instead of allowing your pride and ego to hold you down, you chose to apologize to your sheep. Yes, you do not like to apologize, nevertheless you did apologize to them. The flesh may want you to believe that you are weak, but because you apologize, you have created a room for the Spirit of humility to have its way in your life.

There are so many things that you hate to do, but which you must do all the same to create the desired outcomes that will make become the good and godly husband to your wife and children.  See what the word of God says in Job 34:10. It says he openeth also their ear to discipline, and commandeth that they return from iniquity (Job 34:10). The proof of discipline is to return from your old ways of living to a better way, which is found in Christ Jesus. The other thing that you must do is to continue to resist every temptation with the blood of Jesus Christ. As the godly husband, you cannot avoid temptation, but you can overcome it. In any way or shape this temptation comes, you must resist it. In Jas.4:7, the Scriptures say that resist the devil and he shall flee from you. Resist the temptation to be bitter towards your wife and children. Resist the temptation to allow food control your destiny. Resist steadfastly the temptation to live in bitterness towards your flock. You are more than a conqueror in Christ Jesus.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from every spiritual carelessness as the head of the family.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, arise and deliver me from the power of the strong man in my life.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus and by the blood of Jesus Christ, help me to overcome the power of the flesh.

FAITH CONFESSION

I resist steadfastly every destructive habit because I am called and empowered by God to be the good and godly husband to my wife and children in Jesus name. Amen.
