THE LORD IS YOUR HELPER

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want…..(Ps.23:1).

I will lift up my eyes to the hills from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord who made the heaven and the earth (Ps.121:1-2).

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. It means the Lord is your helper and not man. It also means that the help you need to overcome hurt and forgive those who may have hurt you comes from God, through His Son, Jesus Christ. And that is what the husbandman, Abraham realized and that is what I want to share with you today. I want to encourage you to look up to God for all that you will ever need and not man because vain is the help of man.

In Gen.13:14, the Scriptures relate to us about Abraham who had challenges with his nephew. Abraham had a problem with Lot. Lot took the greener places up to Jordan and left Abraham with nothing significant, even though it was Abraham that made him rich. But in the midst of this challenge, God commanded Abraham to look up to Him. And that is what He did. He looked to God and saw greater help in God’s ability to provide all his needs.

In Matthew chapter 6, the Bible has this to teach us. Give us this day, our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses we forgive those who trespass against us (Matt.6:11-12). The help you need to get all your supplies assured and the grace to forgive those who hurt you comes from God. That is what it means to look up. When you look up, you don’t see the errors of your wife and children or the challenges confronting you. Rather your focus is on God. And once your attention shifts from the challenges or mistakes of your wife and children to God, He reveals to you His power and greatness. The office of the husbandman begins to make meaning to you and that will help you to lovingly relate with your wife and children in the fear of God.

The reason why so many husbandmen have found it very difficult to extend benevolence and kindness to their sheep is because they are looking down at the issues and those who commit the offence. God is saying to you look up. That is where your help comes from (Ps.121:1-2) Would you rather look up or down? Make a wise choice today.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

• Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to take my attention away from man but focus on You alone.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, give me the heart to forgive my wife and children at all times.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from the power of hatred and show me Your greatness

FATHER CONFESSION

I have lifted my eyes to God to receive all the help I need to succeed as the good and godly man, husband and father in Jesus name. Amen.
