THE COVENANT DEMANDS OF THE HUSBANDMAN

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Matt.4:18-20, Lk.2:46, Matt.6:22, Lk.4:16-20, Philp.3:13-14, Lk.22:35, Jn.14:6, Is.61:9, Eph.6:4, Pro.31:8, Eph.5:25-29, 1Tim.3:4, Matt.5:14-16, Num.30:1-end

As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me”, Jesus said, and I will send you out to fish for people. At once they left their nets and followed him (Matt.4:18-20) NIV

Jesus Christ, the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman, aligned Himself with the demands of His assignment as the good shepherd, and He commanded the followership of Peter and his brother Andrew. As the husbandman, until you are ready to align yourself to the Biblical demands of the husbandman, you cannot become the good and godly man, husband and father that commands the followership of his wife and his children.

What then are the covenant demands of the husbandman, and how does it help him to command the followership of his wife and his children?

The husbandman must understand the purpose why God made him the shepherd and gave him a wife and children to lead (Lk.2:46, Lk.4:16-20, Matt.6:22). Do you know where you are going and the purpose for your existence as the man, husband, and father? Until you know where you are going and the reason why God made you the head, no one will follow you, no matter how hard you try.

The husbandman must pursue his purpose with passion, commitment and strong desire (Philp.3:13-14). Have you shown strong commitment and desire to pursue God’s plan for your life as the husbandman? Remember that passion is contagious.

The husbandman must develop the ability and capacity to provide direction and know what is required to take his wife and his children to where they want to go and who they want to be if they follow him (Lk.22:35, Jn.14:6). Do you have what it takes to get your wife and children to where they want to go and who they want to be according to the plans and purposes of God? (Is.61:9, Eph.6:4, Pro.31:28, Eph.5:25-29, 1Tim.3:4).

Jesus earned the trust of Simon and his brother Andrew before they chose to follow Him. He did not ask them to trust Him, He earned their trust by the proof of His conduct (Lk.22:35). Does your wife and your children trust you enough to follow you and your ways (Matt.5:14-16)? Honestly, if you have not earned their trust, no matter what you do and the pressure you put on them, they will never follow you.

Therefore, give yourself to the instructions of Scriptures and the leading of the Person of the Holy Spirit by doing all that the Word of God commands you to do as the man, husband, and father. It is your only evidence to prove that you are the good and godly husbandman.

Hallelujah!

SPIRITUAL EXRCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, give me hearing ears and seeing eyes and help me to know Your purpose for my life as the man, husband and father.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to pursue Your plans for my life as the husbandman.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to be like You in all that I think, say and do.

FAITH CONFESSION

I seek to know from the word of God, His perfect plans and purpose for my life, and I pursue it with commitment and strong desire, because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman who earns the trust and followership of my wife and children in Jesus name. Amen.
