The Servant Is Greatest

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Gen.2:15-18

More Scriptures: Is.40:11, Jn.10:14, Heb.13:20

But ye shall not be so, but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger, and he that is chief, as he that doth serve. For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? Is not he that sitteth at meat? But I am among you as HE THAT SERVETH (Lk.22:26-27).

I have read and listened to some of the comments husbands make about their position as the head of their family. I have also heard them speak to the fact that their sheep need to understand that they are the head in the sheepfold. But the more I listened to their stories the more I see the gap that Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of a good and godly husband, observed and tried to correct. Jesus speaking said, that he who wants to be the greatest must be the chief servant (Lk.22:26). So service is the gateway to rulership. The more you serve your wife and children the higher you climb in your role as a king, priest, pastor and prophet in their lives.

A lot of husbands claim that they are the heads of their families. No doubt about that but many have refused to accept responsibilities that the office of the husbandman commands. You must understand that the office of the husbandman is a call to serve the interests of your wife and children. Sadly, many husbands are wallowing in ignorance. Some others are plain stubborn. However, as a good and godly husband, you must appreciate that there are two Scriptural truths that must guide your life. The first is that being a husband is both a privilege from God, and the second is that being a husband comes with enormous responsibilities.

To be a husband is a privilege given to you by God, and you do not take it for granted. Rather, you must cherish it. I once said that any man can be a father but not any man can be a husband. You can have fathers who are not married to the mothers of their children but you cannot have a husband who is not married to a wife. You are married not because you are richer or smarter or more educated than your other male friends. It is just that God’s mercy and favour located you and gave you a wife so that you can be her lord and spiritual leader. This is why Scriptures say that he that finds a wife has done a good thing and obtains favour from the Lord. There are many husbands who are so well connected, exposed and even rich, yet unmarried. So to become a husband is a God-given opportunity for you to demonstrate His love and character towards your wife and children. It is your best platform of leadership. You are also there for your wife and children to galvanize them to greater heights by serving them. Therefore, you must maximize your time with them.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, make me a true servant to my wife and children.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with the spirit of servant-hood and let me serve my sheep.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from pride and a haughty spirit.

I am committed to serving my wife and children with the whole of my heart, spirit, body and soul because that is what makes me a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
