PLANT, BUILD AND WATCH

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Jeremiah 31:27-28

More Scriptures: John 10:28, Genesis 2:15, Isaiah 21:8

Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man, and with the seed of beast. And it shall come to pass, that like as I have watched over them, to pluck up, and to break down, and to throw down, and to destroy and to afflict, so I will watch over them, to build, and to plant, saith the Lord (Jeremiah 31:27-28). Let’s begin today’s teaching by establishing biblical truth, because the secret to success as the godly man, husband and father is found in the word of God-The Bible. Every husband is a watchman. He has the responsibility to watch over his wife and children (John 10:28). There is one distinct characteristic of a watchman, and that is to protect what is kept in his custody. Your wife and children have been given to you by God. They are in your custody and you are their custodian. This therefore means that you must keep diligent watch over them. And just as it happens in the world when the watchman is the first suspect when there is a theft or robbery case, you will continue to remain the first suspect when anything goes wrong with your family fold. Any wonder God held the first husband responsible for the fall of his family. When the woman saw that the tree was good for food………she took of the fruit thereof and did eat ………and the eyes of them both were opened and they knew that they were naked….and they heard of the voice of the Lord God walking in the Garden……and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of God……and the Lord God called unto Adam and said unto him, where art thou? (Genesis 3:6-9).

Now as a watchman, there are two principal tasks you must accomplish on a daily basis. Firstly, is the task of building your wife and children and family fold on the foundation of Jesus Christ, until Christ is formed in them. You did not marry your wife to break down her life. God did not give you a child (ren) to destroy them. God sent you to be their leader so that you can build them until they are able to attain the fullness of their destinies in Christ. Secondly, it is the task of planting. There will never be a harvest without planting a seed. And until you plant a seed, you must never expect a harvest. Therefore, as the head of your family and the pastor over your sheep, you have a duty to plant good seeds of forgiveness, mercy, sacrificial giving, kindness, respect, courtesies, submission, faith, contentment and much more. Practice these noble acts by living them out as you relate with your wife and children, and also teach them how to live it out with others. As you commit yourself to these principal demands of your heritage as a husband, everlasting joy comes upon your head.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, make me a wise and faithful watchman over my life and sheep.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to practice righteous deeds in the lives of my sheep.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, teach me how to water the seeds of love in my sheep and sheepfold.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am a practitioner of the WORD of GOD so I plant, build and watch over my sheepfold and my wife and children because that is what makes me the good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
