WHAT GOD EXPECTS FROM YOU (3)

Spread the love

Main Scripture: Ezk.34:14-16

More Scriptures: Lk.22:32, Is.11:11, Jer.15:21

I will feed them in a good pasture and upon the high mountains of Israel shall their fold be, there shall they lie in good fold, and in a fat pasture shall they feed upon the mountains of Israel. I will feed my flock, and I will cause them to lie down, saith the Lord. I will seek that which was lost and bring again that which was lost and bring again that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken and will strengthen that which was sick, but I will destroy the fat and the strong. I will feed them with judgment. Ezk.34:14-16.

As we round up this series, let us consider the other covenant demand that God expects from you as the godly husbandman. As the good and godly shepherd, you are to seek what is lost in the lives of your wife and children. You are in their lives to fill the gaps that they may have created by their error either by commission or omission. This means that irrespective of who is at fault, you have the godly responsibility to help recover and restore all that your sheep may have lost.

In Gen.25:20-21, Isaac filled the gap of barrenness in the life of his wife, Rebekah. In Gen.24:1-4, Abraham filled the gap of marital emptiness in the life of his son, Isaac. Jesus filled the gap of self-condemnation in the life of the woman who was caught in the very act of adultery (Jn.8:10-11). You also have the great task to bind every brokenness your wife and children may be going through. Your wife and children may have been broken emotionally from abuses or the pressures of work or school or family members. They may have been broken down from disappointments from friends that they had trusted. Whatever brokenness they may be encountering, you have a covenant responsibility to mend their broken hearts, minds and bodies.

Furthermore, you have a covenant responsibility to strengthen your sheep when they are sick physically and mentally. Jesus speaking to His disciples that were obviously discouraged, said, when I sent you, did you lack anything? (Lk.22:35). And they responded by saying, we lacked nothing.  When Simon Peter seemed to be weak in faith and fearful of an unsure future, Jesus said to him, but I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not, and when thou art converted, strengthen they brethren (Lk.22:32). When your wife or child is sick, you have the power to lay your hands on them and restore their health. God has given you authority and power to trample upon snakes and scorpions and over every power of the enemy. Sickness is your enemy. So, if you find it around your wife and children, chase it out.  When your sheep seems weak, you are to cheer them up both by your words and your actions. It is and will always continue to be a great honour to be the godly man, husband and father to your sheep.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to restore and recover everything missing in the lives of my wife and children.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to unite my sheep in love.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to strengthen my sheep on all sides.

FAITH CONFESSION

I have decided to seek, recover, unite and strengthen my wife and children because that is what makes me a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
