THE SHEPHERD AND THE DOOR

Spread the love

Main Scripture: Jn.10:11-12

More Scriptures: Rom.10:10, Zech.10:2, Ezk.34:23

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the porter openeth and the sheep hear his voice and he calleth his own sheep by name and leadeth them out (Jn.10:1-3).

I want to you to make a commitment today to spend some time studying the Book of John Gospel and the 10th chapter. It is a chapter dedicated to the relationship between the shepherd and the sheep. And because you are a shepherd by the grace and ordination of God by reason of being the head of your family, it is must Scriptures for you. Two quick insights you will gain from the Bible passage. The first is that every shepherd leads his sheep by his voice. Secondly, every shepherd has a sheep and a sheepfold.

Today, I want to teach a little on the subject of the shepherd. Every sheepfold has a door and the shepherd is the door to the sheepfold. From the Scriptures in John chapter 10, the Bible tells us that Jesus Christ is the door of the sheep. It also says that He is the good shepherd. So, also you are the door of your sheepfold, watching over your sheep. What this means is that as soon as the sheep enters the sheepfold, the shepherd would mount guard at the entrance. This is what makes him an effective door-keeper. Secondly, because the shepherd has mounted guard as the door to his sheepfold, he keeps a close watch over the sheep. The implication of this is that the shepherd can hear even the faintest voice of his sheep. Consequently, no evil can enter and touch his sheep without first passing through the door to the sheepfold. As the door, the shepherd determines who and what is permitted to enter into the sheepfold. This is your heritage. That is exactly your position in Jesus Christ as the head of your family.

But how do I ensure that I function as the door to my sheep and sheepfold? The first action point is for you to accept the truth of God’s word that you are the shepherd and the door to your sheepfold. In Rom.10:10, the Scripture tells us that with the heart man believes but with the mouth confession is made unto salvation (Rom.0:10). The word of God cannot do much in your life until you accept it. It is only when you accept that you are in indeed a shepherd and a door, that you can believe and behave like one. Secondly, you must be willing to take personal responsibility for your position as the good shepherd and not blaming your wife, children or even the devil. You are the door and when you call your wife and children, they must recognize your voice and be willing to follow you (Jn.10:3).

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to take personal responsibility for my sheep.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from the force of excuses and blame-game.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to lead my wife and children in Your ways always.

FAITH CONFESSION

I stand firmly as the door to my sheepfold against ungodly influences because that is what makes me the good and godly shepherd over my wife and children in Jesus Name. Amen.
