Main Scriptures: Gen.2:15-18

More Scriptures: 1Tim.5:8, Eph.6:4, Deut.6:7

I honestly did not plan to write on this topic. But as I was rounding up the previous day’s devotional, my Greatest Teacher, the Person of the Holy Spirit, inspired this in my heart to share with husbands. I trust that you will be challenged by the truth you discover and commit to act differently.

Now, I need you to answer these questions truthfully. As the shepherd over your sheep, who calls the shots in your home? Who provides the finances and calls the shots in the financial management of your family kingdom? Who is the bread winner and determines what happens in your family kingdom? Who ultimately is in charge at home? These are very important questions that every husband must answer if he wants to be relevant in his family and amongst the people out there. This is not to demean the place of your wife or make her look inferior. She is not inferior and will never be because the Scripture says so. Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers (1Pet.3:7) NIV. So don’t terrorize your wife and children because you want to call the shots in your family kingdom. Your value and honour as the head of your family does not lie between your legs. It doesn’t even lie in your looks. It hangs on your ability to function as the shepherd indeed.

It is not enough to be called a father. It is not even enough for you to be called a husband. It does not add to your credit that you are called a man. What matters to God is how functional you are in the discharge of your duties as the man, husband and father. God put you in charge of your family kingdom so that you can actually demonstrate His kind of life. God’s kind of life is the life of a shepherd and helper. He is not God because He wants to be called so. He is God because He created all things. It is a disservice to the office of the husbandhood for you to be funded by the monies that your wife earns. You are ordained to go out there and return home with the harvest of the day. It is against divine order for your children to always refer to your wife when there are needs to be met at home. This is not male chauvinism. It is Bible sense. For a husband who does not provide for his relatives and especially for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever (1Tim.5:8).

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, stir up the Spirit of work in my life and let it bless my family.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from half truths.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, bless me after the order of the spiritual examples of husbands and fathers in Your word.

I covenant with God to be responsibly-accountable and I receive grace to be in charge of my family because that is my heritage as the good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.

I am starting to struggle with not working while my wife heads out everyday to go to work . I am 65 and have been retired since June , my wife is 52 and has a way to way. I have work all my life but condemnation and guilt are riding up so much now I am considering going back to work. I enjoy the devotionals.
