DEALING WITH YOUR WIFE, GOD’S WAY (2)

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: 1Corinthians 7:13-15

More Scriptures: Acts 16:2, Rom.12:21, Phil.3:12

Yesterday, we learnt from the teaching that if we as husbands study the word of God-the Bible- we would know how God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit handles His bride-the Church. We also understood that it is wisdom to deal with our wives the same way Jesus Christ would deal with her. I pray in the name of Jesus, that you will not lose track of how Jesus deals with the Church in your relationship with your wife. Amen.

But how did Jesus deal with church? One of the ways Jesus Christ dealt with His disciples was and is still through building what I call, “good reputation”.As the head of your family, your reputation is very important when you are dealing with your wife. What this means is that you are above reproach. For instance, if your wife is cheating on you by having extra-marital affair with another man, you do not say that you must also start to have extra-marital affair. Some husbands would tell you that if she can cheat on me, let me also cheat on her as way of revenge. That is the wrong way to deal with an adulterous wife. In Acts 16:2, the Scripture talks about a people that were well spoken of. It says, which was well reported of by the brethren that were at Lystra and Iconium (Acts 16:2). Despite the negative things happening in the city, some people stood out with outstanding reputation. This is how you should handle your wife as her spiritual leader. In 1Cor.7:14, the Bible talks about how your good reputation can sanctify your wayward wife. It says, and the unbelieving wife is SANCTIFIED by the husband….(1Cor.7:14).

As the head of the family, you can through your reputation restore your wife and children back to the path of honour and pride. When your wife and children seem to be over board, that is when you must maintain your right-standing with God. If when your wife or children say or do things that will upset, you must not respond in ways that may question the integrity of your virtues as the good and godly husbandman. For example, instead of returning insults for insults or physically abusing your sheep for the offence they commit against you, you return good to them. In Rom.12, the Word of God says be not overcome with evil, but overcome evil with good (Rom.12:21). Your call into the office of the husbandhood is to ensure that you create an atmosphere in your home where evil does not prevail over good but good over evil. And the first person to demonstrate this godly reputation is you, the head and spiritual authority of the family. Your home is your immediate constituency and kingdom. The way you administer the instructions of God, first, to your life and then to your wife and children will determine if you are truly the godly shepherd or not. Make your life count!

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, open my eyes to see great and mighty things from Your Word.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from the deceitfulness of the times we are in.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to hold onto my godly

FAITH CONFESSION

From today henceforth, I receive grace to maintain my godly reputations despite the weakness of my sheep because that is the wisdom I need to save them from sin, the world and the devil and triumph as the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
