HUSBANDS IN MARRIAGE

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Gen.2:15-18

More Scriptures: Gen.2:26, Eph.5:25, Is.37:35

Before we start today’s devotional, it is very important for you to understand what marriage is from the perspective of the word of God. Marriage is not a contract. Marriage is also not the idea of man, denomination or culture. Marriage is a spiritual, covenant relationship between God, man and woman. In Gen.2:15-18, the Scripture says, it is not good for man to be alone, let us make for him a helpmeet. There is a covenant relationship between you, your wife and God. Secondly, in Gen.2:24-26, the word of God says, for this reason shall a man leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife and the two shall become one flesh. There is also a covenant relationship between you and your wife.

So, marriage is not only in meat and drink. It is the greatest platform to practice the covenant and demonstrate the relationship between the Bridegroom, Jesus Christ and the bride, the church. Now what role do you play as a husband in this spiritual covenant relationship? First, as a husband, it is your principal responsibility to provide direction and influence for your flock. There is just one head in the marriage relationship and that is you. By your position as the shepherd of the sheepfold, you lead the way in your family kingdom. Secondly, you provide protection-spiritually and physically-for your sheep. As long as Jesus Christ was with His disciples, nobody could hurt them, not even the Pharisees. When Apostle Paul was on a voyage with some people in the same boat, the storm came threatening to destroy both the passengers and the boat. But one man stood up and declared hope and safety for the people in the boat. His name was Apostle Paul. Thirdly, you are a recovery agent in your family kingdom. This means that you can recover and restore the health of your wife and children. You can restore the dignity of your flock.

But for you to function in these glorious responsibilities, you must contend in prayers. The forces of hell are bent on seeing that you do not function the way God wants, so you must not sit back and watch. The Scripture tells us that we must contend for the faith. You must fight the good fight of faith, not physically but spiritually. You don’t wrestle against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers in high places. Furthermore, you must keep declaring the will of God over your life. You must not keep quiet. In Rom.10:10, the word says that with the heart man believeth and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. You have a glorious heritage as a good and godly husband. Make the most of it.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, by Your Spirit, open my eyes to see the glorious heritage in being a husband.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to contend for my position as the head of my family.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, guide me through Your word and let it gain root in my heart and bear fruits in my life.

FAITH CONFESSION

I receive the help of God to function triumphantly as a good and godly husband to my flock in Jesus name. Amen.
