LIVING BIBLICAL PRINCIPLES AS THE HEAD OF THE FAMILY

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Heb.6:1-3

More Scriptures: Gen.18:19, Deut.6:7, 1Tim.5:8

Have you pondered why the husbandhood has lost command, power and influence in the sheepfold today? Well, the reason is not farfetched. It is because the husbandman has left the principles of God that guide the office of the husbandhood and chose to follow the principles of the world. A couple of years ago, the Holy Spirit said to me, when we distort the order, we disrupt the blessings”. No shepherd can exercise and attain his full potential as the godly man, husband and father, if he rejects the principles and laws of the Word of God, guiding the functions of his office. Today, many shepherds have become dependent on their sheep for their upkeep-spiritually, financially, materially and even accommodation. It is against the will of God.

Now, let us look at some of the principles of God around the office of the husbandhood. First, you are to lead your wife and children in the way of the Lord. In Gen.18:19, the Scripture says, I know him, that he will COMMAND HIS CHILDREN and HIS HOUSEHOLD after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment, that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him. So, also God said through you shall all the families of the earth be blessed (Gen.12:3). How would you think that you could be a man of authority in your home when it is your wife who prays, fasts and attends to spiritual matters, provides for the upkeep and sustenance of you and your children? Never! It is almost impossible and difficult. This explains why the head of the family is beginning to lose his place of authority in the home front. The second principle of God is for you to be the provider for your family.

There is this half-truth being taught in churches that is against the principle of Scriptures. It is taught that since the husband and wife are now one flesh, the covenant responsibility of one becomes the responsibility of the other. So, rather than the husbandman to go to work so that he can provide for his family, he now looks to his wife for provision. Husbands, being one with your wife does not abdicate you from taking full personal responsibility for providing shelter, food, clothing, school fees, e.t.c. for your flock, as a man, husband and father. After God created the earth and everything therein, He placed the husband to cultivate and keep (Gen.2:14-16). The wife only came to meet the work and improvements that her husband has done. If you were bold to marry a woman, you must be responsible to take care of her needs. If you are proud to be a father, you must be accountably-responsible to provide all that your child needs to grow and develop. For a man who cannot provide for his own household is worse than a sinner (1Tim. 5:8). Sit up! Lead forward! Be responsible and accountable!

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, through Your Holy Spirit, empower me to receive the spirit of truth.
  • Father, by the blood of Jesus Christ, deliver me from the spirit of falsehood and lies
  • Father, by the power in the name of JESUS CHRIST, strengthen me to be alive to the demands of my office.

FAITH CONFESSION

I remain steadfast on and live by the principles of the word of God because it is my anchor to leading my wife and children in the way and admonition of the Lord in Jesus name. Amen.
