Have you ever asked yourself why God made you a father? What is the perspective that you have as a father? Because, until you understand what you are called to do, as a father, you will not fulfill the fullness of the plan of God for your life. So, we want to consider what God says about fatherhood. My prayer is that the revelation knowledge will fill your heart to act profitably for the good of your wife and children in Jesus name. Amen.
As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father doeth his children. That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory (1Thess.2:11-12).
The word of God mentioned three vital roles you have to play in the lives of your wife and children as their father. The first is for you to exhort them. The second is to comfort them. And the third is to charge them. To exhort means to strongly encourage or motivate someone to do something. A lot of the times, what your wife and children need is a push from you. They need you to motivate and encourage them to do their best because sometimes the challenges may be overwhelming. To comfort means the easing of a person’s feelings of pain or distress. You must understand that your wife hurts. Your children also hurt. They may be hurting physically, mentally or emotionally. As the good shepherd, you are their comfort. You are their bulwark. You are to become a source of relief to them. To charge means to inspire and challenge someone to give much more, notwithstanding the challenges or obstacles. As a father, you must inspire your wife and children never to settle for less. They must strive to become better than their best, helping to become all that God wants them to be.
So, the question before you today is this. Are you motivating your wife and children, or you are demotivating them? Can your wife and children safely come to you with their pains and distress and be sure they will be comforted and not abused? How much inspiration are you to your wife and children? Can they lean on your life’s stories and experiences to become the best in their endeavour? Answer these questions truthfully and make adjustments where necessary.
However, for you to become the good and godly father indeed to your wife and children, you must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and receive His nature into your life (Rom.10:10). Secondly, you must invest your life’s resources into the study of the word of God with the aiming of knowing God’s commandments (Jos.1:6-8). Thirdly, you ask the Person of the Holy Spirit to empower you to live out your covenant roles as comforter, motivator and inspiration (Acts 2:4, Jn.15:5, Philip.4:13). You are worth your value as the good and godly father. Make it count for your wife and children.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, teach me how to behave as the good and godly father.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from every form of irresponsibility and give me a better perspective from Your word.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, fill me with supernatural wisdom and empower me to act as the godly father would to my wife and children.
I have the mind of Christ in Jesus and so I am empowered to become a comforter, motivator and inspiration to my wife and children because that is what makes me the good and godly father to my wife and children in Jesus name. Amen.
