Bible Texts: Lk.19:1-4, Matt.5:14-16, Jn.10:10, Jn.14:6
And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho. And behold, there was a man named Zaccheus, which was the chief among the publicans and he was rich. And he sought to see Jesus who he was and could not for the press because he was little of stature. And he ran before and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him, for he was to pass that way (Lk.19:1-4)
I have read the above passage of the Bible a lot of times and what comes to mind is the man Zaccheus and his encounter with Jesus Christ. But few weeks ago, the Person of the Holy Spirit, opened my eyes to see deeper revelation about this verse of the Bible-the sycamore tree.
Zaccheus was a rich man but he lacked something-Jesus Christ. He also was of a little stature. So, he decided that he will see Jesus Christ, no matter the prize. What did he do? He sought for a platform-the sycamore tree. He climbed the sycamore tree so that he can see Jesus Christ. He finally saw Jesus Christ and invited Him to his house.
You are the sycamore tree in your sheepfold. You are the shoulder on which your wife and children climb to see, experience and encounter the great future God has for them. You are the platform that God has provided for your wife and children to see the goodness, kindness, mercies and provision of the Person of Jesus Christ. Study these words of Jesus Christ, the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman. I came that ye might have life and have it more abundantly…. (Jn.10:10b). And, ye are the light of the world….. (Matt.5:14-16).
Your presence in the lives of your sheep is not to reduce their worth but to improve it, the same way Zaccheus’s life was blessed when He met with Jesus Christ. You are sent by God into the lives of your wife and children as a plus and not a burden. You are to lift them up and give them reasons to live life to the glory and praise of Jesus Christ our Lord.
But how do I become the sycamore tree for my wife and children?
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, please make me a blessing and not a burden to my sheep.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from every entrapment of satan, sin and the world.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, teach me how to beautify the lives of my wife and children.
FAITH CONFESSION
I make a commitment today to be a blessing and not a burden to my wife and children because I am the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
