Bible Texts: Jer.1:10-12, Gen.1:1-3, Is.61:9, Matt.6:22, Jer.29:11, 1Pet.3:7-9, Eph.5:25, 1Tim.3:1

Moreover the word of the Lord came unto me, saying Jeremiah, what seest thou? And I said I see a rod of an almond tree. Then said the Lord unto me, thou hast well seen for I will hasten my word to perform it. (Jer.1:11-12) KJV

A lot of times as the head of our families, we do not appreciate the importance and power of vision as one of the most crucial tools that help us to maximize our leadership role in the sheepfold. And this explains why so many us give up quite easily and quickly when we are faced with the challenges of life. Many more shepherds do not have any more reason why they must remain in the sheepfold and continue to lead their sheep. All of this is because the shepherd has no vision for his life and that of his wife and children. It is for this reason that I encourage you to give attention to our main text today. That is Jeremiah chapter 1 and verses 10-12.

Prophet Jeremiah was ordained a prophet by God, before his mother ever conceived him. God had made him a leader from the foundation of the world but he did not see what God was showing him, so God had to engage him. God asked him a simple question, “what do you see or better still what can you see?”  He said that he saw an almond tree and God responded that he has seen well. With this understanding, he never gave up on his assignment as a prophet over the people of God.

You can also lead your wife and children without giving up on your role as the good and godly man, husband and father, if you can see the glorious destinies that God has for them from His word. It may be true that you are under pressure to be a responsible shepherd to your wife and children. It may also be a fact that your wife and children are not making your role any better or easier.  But no matter what the challenges may be, you can sustain your leadership role over them by the power of vision.

Your wife and children are fearfully and wonderfully made. Your wife is given to you to enjoy. Your children are indeed the seed that the Lord has blessed. This is what you must see and allow to dominate your thought daily. If thy eyes be single, they whole body will be full of light (Matt.6:22). You must focus on the plan and purpose of God for your wife and children. You must not be distracted by satan, sin and the world.

So, what is the impact a godly vision for your family can have on your life thereby making you to succeed as the godly man, husband and father? Firstly, godly vision allows you to see your wife and children not as they are but as God sees them. That is, you see the good in your wife and children, and you allow God kind of love to radiate through you to them. Secondly, godly vision allows you to be filled with compassion and mercy and act positively to help your wife and children become better. Thirdly, it gives you conviction and motivation to stand with your wife and children notwithstanding their shortcomings. Finally, godly vision brings you fulfillment that you are a victor and a loser.

God is asking you today, what can you see from His word about your wife and children?

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to have greater vision for my wife and children.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to pursue Your plan for my wife and children with all my heart, might and strength.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, fill me with the spirit of faith and boldness to stand firmly for my wife and children and home.

I am filled with the vision of God for my wife and children and my sheepfold and by it I pursue God’s will for them because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
