The Litmus Test For You

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Philippians 4:8

More Scriptures: Dan.1:8, Ss.5:16, Rom.15:14

During our Bible study which is also known as the LUNCH HOUR BIBLE STUDY meeting sometime ago, we shared from the word of God the need for every husband to see Jesus Christ as the reality of the example of how a good and godly husband is expected to function. And we established that the litmus test to confirm if we are truly working towards becoming good and godly husbands is in the Scriptures. It is in Philippians chapter 4. It is like a road map for every husband who wants to be like Jesus and it has served as a check for me in almost 16 years of my marriage relationship. If any husband can place his decisions and actions side by side the test in the Bible, it will empower him to determine if what he is doing is right or wrong. Let me submit here and now that I failed the test several times over but I have kept pressing on till Christ is formed in me as a good and godly husband.

Now what is the litmus test? Finally, brethren, whatever things are TRUE, whatever things are NOBLE, whatever things are JUST, whatever things are PURE, whatever things are LOVELY, whatever things are of GOOD REPORT, if there be anything virtue and if there is anything PRAISEWORTHY, MEDITATE on these things (Philp.4:8). As the head of your family and the husband of your sheepfold, I want you to note seven tests and I want you to use them to judge your past, present and future actions. The tests are truth, nobility, justice, purity, loveliness, good report and praise worthiness. You must realize that on a daily basis, you and I are confronted with opportunities to take decisions that affect our sheep. Some of us have taken right decisions and other times bad decisions. So for you and I to grow to becoming good and godly husbands, we must take a moment and ask these questions. Are my decisions truthful, noble, just, pure, lovely, of good report and worthy of praise unto Jesus Christ? If yes, go ahead. But if not, stop.

As the head of your family, you must continue to learn to weigh your actions and decisions on the basis of the Word of God. You are the head of the family and an overseer over your wife and children. Your wife and children have been given to you by God to nurture, keep and develop. And it is your decisions either rightly or wrongly that shapes their lives. So you must be very careful about the decisions you take over your sheep. So the next time you want to take a decision over your wife, children, that business or that relationship or in any area of life, subject it to Philp.4:8. If it doesn’t meet this test, it’s not worth it. Don’t do it.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to commit all my decisions to the test in Philippians 4:8.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to live by Your word and instructions.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to be truthful in all my decisions as the head of my family.

FAITH CONFESSION

I subject all the decisions I take as it concerns my wife and children to the test of God’s word because I am striving to becoming a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
