FOLLOW AFTER JESUS CHRIST

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Eph.5:1-2

More Scriptures: Phil.3:17, 1Thess.1:6, Eph.5:1

Be ye therefore followers of God as dear children, and walk in love as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour (Eph.5:1-2) This is the Scripture of our main text today. And it is directed to husbands, who have been called by God to lead their families. Paul was speaking to his followers; the same way God has ordained your wife and children to be your followers. Your wife and children are to follow you as their leader. As the head of the family and the shepherd of your home, your sheep are expected to follow you. If they don’t follow you, then something is very wrong with you. Isaac followed his father. Sarah followed her husband (Gen.12:1-3). However, God wants your wife and children to follow you in the path of righteousness you are to lead them in the way of the Lord (1Cor.11:1b).

For you to lead your wife and children in the things that are right, you must first be a follower of Jesus Christ. It is your walk with God that determines how much influence you will have over your flock to follow you. Most importantly, your life must demonstrate your unwavering submission to the will of God, from His Word- the Bible. What this means is that your life must be a show. As a husband, if your wife and children have become rebellious or resisting following you, you must ask yourself these following questions. Am I living a transparent life that my wife and children can emulate? Have I truly been a worthy mentor to them? Do my actions towards them and the things of God agree with what I say? Have I said something and did something different? Your flocks are watching you. If they don’t see you as a worthy example, they will not follow you no matter how much you shout or intimidate them. Therefore, it is important for you to continually examine your life to see if you are still doing the right thing to God and to them (2Cor.13:5).
