Main Scriptures: Ps.89:5-7

More Scriptures: Gen.1:26, Gen.2:14, Lk.10:19

So, the question you must answer is this. Have you truly been the godly father and mentor that God wants you to be to your children? Have you shown sufficient example by your conduct of how a godly man, husband and father should behave? Have you mentored your children in a way that they will always look up to you for guidance, support, inspiration and encouragement?

These are questions that you must give attention to and commit to doing your part of the covenant responsibilities of a godly husband and father.

The other key that you require in order for you to make the most of your headship is your capacity to protect your wife and children from internal or external aggression. As the head of your family, you must understand that God has entrusted His sheep to your care because He knows that you can do a good job. He also believes that you have the capacity to be like Him to your sheep. That is what He said about you. Let us make man in our image and in our likeness and let him have dominion over…(Gen.1:26). So, when He made you, He put you in charge of the sheepfold (Gen. 2:14)

Your presence in the lives of your sheep must deflect every pressure and attacks that may be targeted towards them and your home. These attacks may come from your parents, siblings, friends and even other family members. The attacks can also come from the devil. Some of the challenges come in the form sickness, oppression, assault, insult, nightmares and depression. You have been empowered by God to deliver your sheep from all oppressions of the devil. In Luke 10 and verse 19, the word of God says this. I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and nothing shall by any means hurt you (Lk.10:19). So, as the shepherd over the sheep of God, you have a responsibility to exercise that power to protect your sheep from any hurt, be it mentally, physically or emotionally.

For instance, it is true that your wife may have some health challenges that are affecting her reproductive organs which have made her not to be able to conceive. It is also true that your wife may not be able to satisfy you sexually or may not even know how to cook. Notwithstanding the obvious challenges your wife may have, you have the right to protect her. Now consider Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husband while He led the bride (the twelve disciples). When the authority of their day put them under pressure to pay their tax, Jesus did something. He provided a solution.

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, fill me with divine wisdom that I may know how to relate with my children.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, make me a worthy teacher of Your word to my sheep.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, make me a practical example of truth, honesty faithfulness and holiness to my wife and children.

I have the wisdom of God working in my life and through it, I lead my sheep in pleasant places and give them rest round about because that is what makes me the good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
