COVET NO MAN’S SILVER, WORK WITH YOUR HANDS

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Acts 20:33-34

More Scriptures: Acts 20:35, 1Tim.5:8, Jn.14:26

I have coveted no man’s silver or gold or apparel. Yea, ye yourselves know that THESE HANDS have ministered unto my necessities and to them that were with me (Acts 20:33-34).

Recently, I learnt the difference between honesty and integrity. Integrity is who people think you are while honesty is who you really are. So, the best form of life God wants you to live as the good and godly husbandman is honesty. It is your best policy and that is what the Scripture in Acts chapter 20 and verses 33 and 34 tries to teach and I pray in the name of Jesus that your life and mine shall be true to ourselves.

Let me begin by saying that any husband who covets any man’s thing or depends on the silver or gold or apparels of his parents, wife or relations as a way of life has defeated the purpose why God made him the head of his family. The Scripture today explains to us the personality of the leader, Apostle Paul. The first is that he did not covet or steal from anybody. He did not use his position as a leader to forcefully collect what was not his. Secondly, he worked with hands not only to provide for himself but also for his people. He did not rely or depend on others to survive. He was never a burden on his parents or relations, rather he was an asset. So, the question you need to ask yourself is this. Am I coveting another man’s possessions or banking on another man’s possessions to make a living? Am I a burden or an asset to my wife and children and those around me? How much value am I adding to my wife and children and around me?

As the head of your family and the spiritual leader of your home, it is dishonorable for you to be dependent on your parents for your necessities even after you are married. Your honour as the head of your family is your capacity to be the principal provider of the necessities of your wife and children and a channel through which God will bless others (Gen.12:2-3). In 1Tim.5:7-8, the word of God clearly states that it is your primary responsibility to meet the necessities of your wife and children. Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Job were men of honour. They ministered to the necessities of their sheep. So, what must I do to ensure that I minister to the necessities of my wife and children as my core responsibility as the good and godly husbandman? Work, and productively work. You must refuse to become a leech on anybody, irrespective of how close they are to you. You must continue to engage your spirit, soul and body in such a way that you are always out there working. Secondly, you must ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you what next to do concerning the works of your hands. The word of God tells us that it is the Lord that teaches us to prosper and leads us in the way that we should” (Is.48:17).

You must make your life count, postively.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower my hands to be productive in all my works.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, destroy the power of covetousness in my life and fill me with the spirit of contentment.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, satisfy me early with Your goodness and help me to meet the necessities of my wife and children.

FAITH CONFESSION

I work diligently and productively to meet the needs of my wife, children and those around me because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
