I PRAY FOR THEM (2)

Bible Texts: Jn.17:9, Heb.6:5, Gal.4:19, Mk.9:29, Job 22:28, Jn.17:17

I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours. All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them. (Jn.17:9-10) NIV.

But why should I pray for my wife and children? The first reason is found in John chapter 17 and verse 17. Sanctify them through thy truth; thy word is truth (Jn.17:17). Your prayers for your wife and children sanctify them to be holy and worthy vessels in the hands of God. Your prayer protects them from the influences of satan, sin and the world. Secondly, your intercession for your sheep enforces the will of God in their lives. My little children, of whom I am in labour again, until Christ be formed in you (Gal.4:19).

One of my mentors, Bishop David Abioye once remarked that nothing moves until an element of force is applied to it. This means nothing changes until someone applies some force. Change is not a wish. Change is made to happen. You can enforce the perfect will of God for your wife and children in their spiritual, mental, emotional, physical, financial, relational and character by the power of intercession. Thirdly, you wade-off ungodly influences. I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world but that thou shouldest keep them from evil (Jn.17:15).

As the good and godly husbandman, you must develop a prayer plan for your wife and children. You must understand that nothing happens by chance. Your wife and children will not become that obedient, faithful, submissive and honourable personality that you would love to see if you do not pray them into it. Praying for your sheep is spiritual seed. It is also a goodly investment.

Thankfully, you can never get it wrong praying for your wife and children from the perspective of Scriptures. You must also appreciate that prayer is your potent weapon in your journey to becoming the shepherd of good and godly influence. And praying for your wife and children makes your dream wife and children a reality. This kind goeth not forth except by prayer and fasting (Mk.9:29).

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

• Father, in the Name of Jesus, set me on fire for a life of prayer for my wife and children.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to pray aright and according to Your will.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, hear me when I call on You on behalf of my wife and children.

FAITH CONFESSION

I pray for my wife and children with love and passion because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
