BITTERNESS IS A BAD PILL, DON’T DRINK IT.

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Eph.4:30-31, Rev.12:10, Rom.10:10, Ps.51:10, Rom.12:21, 1Pet.3:7

And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, and wrath and anger and clamor and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be ye kind one to another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you (Eph.4:30-31)

Bitterness is a dangerous pill. It kills you spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically. Whenever you are bitter against your wife and children, it affects your relationship with them, negatively. This is why the Scripture in Ephesians chapter 4 admonishes you and I to put away all malice (Eph.4:31b). It is true that your wife may have offended you. It may also be true that your children have also hurt you. Whatever offence your wife and children may have done to you, you must not allow it to make you hold on to them in bitterness. In Romans chapter 12 and verse 21, the Bible speaks of this truth. Be not overcome with evil but overcome evil with good (Rom.12:21).

Now, what do I risk holding bitterness against my wife and children? Bitterness hinders your capacity to grow unto maturity (Gen.17:1). It hinders you from making sound and right judgment. Bitterness also shuts down the flow of inspiration because it makes you to focus on the wrong on a daily basis. Bitterness also makes you to deal with your wife and children treacherously (Mal.2:13-14). It drains you of your spiritual energy and it is a heavy weight on your emotional life. Bitterness is a dangerous pill offered by satan, your adversary.

But how do I overcome the power and force of bitterness as the godly husbandman and the head of my family? Firstly, you must recognize and understand what bitterness is. That is, bitterness is a sin. Secondly, you must fight every suggestion and influence to be bitter towards your wife and children, using the spiritual forces of prayers and fasting and confessions (Mk.9:29, Rom.10:10). Thirdly, you must contend using the blood of Jesus Christ as a weapon of warfare (Rev.12:10-11). You can and will always win by the prevailing power in the blood of Jesus Christ. And lastly, engage the help of the Holy Spirit to recreate within a clean heart and a right spirit. Create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me (Ps.51:10).

And as you fight to overcome the deceitfulness of bitterness, you will enjoy unhindered blessings from the Lord. You will also enjoy unhindered answer to your prayers (1Pet.3:7). Overcome bitterness with the love of Jesus Christ because that is what makes you the good and godly husbandman.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, forgive me for being bitter and malicious towards my wife and children.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from every form of filthiness and unforgiveness.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, sanctify my spirit, soul and body with the power of Your compassion, mercy and love.

FAITH CONFESSION

I overcome the force of bitterness against my wife and children with the love of Jesus Christ because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
